Youngsters ready for World Trampoline Championships

Trampolinists from the North East are gettign ready to compete at next months World Trampoline Championships in Metz, France.

Alexander Richardson, Rachel Davies, Steven Gilmoure and Alex Knowd from the Deerness Valley Gymnastics Club have all been selected to take part for the Great Britain squad.

Coach Glen Wharton will also be travelling with the team. This is a great achievement for thr trampoline club and one will be keeping our eye on. The competitors will be challenging in the girls' 11-12 category, while the boys will be in the 16-16 years category.

It is a sign of the trampoline clubs standing at present and so well done to all involved. Coach Glen Wharton said " “It is fantastic to have four of our youngsters in the squad, a real feather in our cap as we only had two in the team at last year’s championships.

“I am very pleased to be joining them out there – it will be my first time at the championships and I am looking forward to what should be a tremendous competition.”

Davies is apparently the one to watch in the future, who has already won a trampoline medal this year in the British Championships in July, winning in front of 18 other competitors. She is looking a hot prospect for a podium finish in the World Championships next month.

Gilmour has also represented Great Britain in trampoline events, winning a silver medal last year and Knowd was among the medallists in South Shields in another competition this year.
